A Short History of The Mott Dermatology
Clinic
The clinic is named after an ancient Hertfordshire family: a bequest from Miss
Joan Mott enabled its establishment. She was aunt to Mrs. Mary Chesney, and
she and her sister Lucy were the last to bear the name. The only son in the
family, older brother to Lucy and Joan, was Lieutenant Lewes Mott, who was killed
in action as an Observer in the Royal Flying Corps in 1917. In recognition and
thanks for the bequest, the family name was adopted for the Mott Clinic. Their
family crest, the eight pointed etoile and bar, has been incorporated into the
Clinic's emblem.
